Near Shauliai 12 km to the north from the city, there is a world famous Catholics sacred place. s Hill of Crosses. (see History of Hill of crosses). Half a million of believers per year visit Hill of Crosses There are about 100 000 of different crosses here to day.
The city itself was destroyed so much especially in the second world war, that today for tourists there are not so many points of interest. One can visit baroque Peter and Paul cathedral and see statue of Arch boy symbol of Shauliai.
There is nice walking main street , and who likes bear can try well known bear Gubernija. Bear Gubernija starting to produce in Shauliai in 1665. It is one of the oldest breweries in all Baltic States.
